Forum “Corruption in Ukraine”
In the evening of April 18 in the hall of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future was held an open forum on the topic “Corruption in Ukraine”. Many representatives of public organizations and, of course, the International Anti-Corruption Assembly headed by Vyacheslav Sayenko were invited to this event.
The organizers were the founders of the International Institute for Deep Democracy Max and Ellen Schupbach and the Executive Director of the Institute in Ukraine.
- Deep Democracy Institute, USA (Institute of Deep Democracy, USA) is a research center that develops skills of international leadership and coaching models in the USA, Europe, Africa, the former Soviet Union, Southeast Asia and the Middle East…
- Max Schupbach and Ellen Schupbach are internationally recognized leaders, conflict experts, experts in conflict resolution and prevention, psychologists and business consultants.
The opening speech was given to the founder and president of the Institute of Deep Democracy.
“…Corruption is a global topic, which is probably present in every city where we were and where we worked. It is like a supervisor in medicine for which there is no cure. And from the point of view of democracy, from our point of view, we notice such a tendency that we look at our leaders and expect them to solve this global problem. And I think they should do it. Well, for as long as they can. And from my many years of experience, working with this topic in many countries, I understand that this problem does not move because of the systemic processes in which we all take part. And one of the reasons why we are organizing this forum is that everyone notices how much he or she is involved in this global topic and thinks: “what can he or she do to change it somehow within the framework of his or her own life”. I hope we can all learn something here together through your stories, through our general discussions…”
Max Schupbach
Head of Public Association “International Anti-Corruption Assembly”
The floor was given to Vyacheslav Saenko, Head of the International Anti-Corruption Assembly.
“At any event, of course, we want to find a tool for us, the professionals who are here in the hall, to be more effective in our activities, because we are called “fighters against corruption”. To date, I have been involved in anti-corruption activities in a public organization since 2007. And I know one thing. That no one can help us but themselves. To date, our organization has created many tools that we could share with public organizations. And the experience that we have today, and international experience that we adopt for our organization. We have developed the International Anti-Corruption Manifesto, which shows that only by joining forces – each professional in his or her field – will we be able to effectively fight corruption not only in our country, but throughout the world.”
Speakers’ speeches
Speakers were also invited to the forum, who presented their position on their life experience.
Anastasia is an activist and participant, a leader and facilitator of police, education and medical reform. Speaking to the audience about the history of personal life related to school textbooks, she touched upon the topic “Corruption in schools”.
Tina is an artist. She shared her story, which took place in Lviv during the Biennale of Trust (Trust Day). Tina touched on the topic of “bribes”.
Sergey – representative and head of IT-business. I have repeatedly encountered corruption “in different forms – directly and indirectly”, and shared with those present my opinion about the changes I could feel on myself. Opening of the company, communication with different self-government bodies, possibility to solve many issues through the Internet – all these are very big changes. “On the other hand, watching how technology helps to improve the corruption situation in the country, I also see that technology is also developing on the other side. And if you have any doubts as to whether or not to give a bribe, you can just buy a service from a lawyer, and he will bring it to anyone. Or pay the customs broker, and he’ll clear your car faster and cheaper…”
I give the floor to the audience
After a short discussion, the floor was given to listeners who wanted to tell something about themselves or ask a question to the organizers…
Various areas of corruption were touched upon, including gas corruption, which was described by a representative of the public human rights organization “Bagnet of the Nation”.
